When the Old becomes New Again

17 Aug

One of the best places to look for inspiration is though vintage and antique pieces. The details and craftsmanship is beyond comparable to commercial products found today. Many vendors who shop the world display their finds at antique shows several times a year. These are a few of my favorites and photos from the showS.

The Brimfield Antique Show

One of the biggest flea markets in the world held 4 times a year in Massachusetts and over 21 fields of vendors.

Manhattan Vintage

Held in Chelsea at the Metropavillion with over 80 nation-wide vendors

Vintage Selection

Held at Stazione Leopoida and is one of the most prestigious fairs in Europe dedicated to vintage with over 40 vendors

Style Icon: Emanuel Limon

8 Jun
About a month ago, I had the amazing opportunity to meet Emanuel Limon, visionary extraordinaire, expressing his ideas through design, art, and photography. Like a mash-up between Warhol and Rick Owens, Limon pushes the envelope with his reconstructed masterpieces.

His sunglasses first caught my eye with futuristic shaping and mixed-media that I’ve never seen before. When asked where he got them, he understatedly said “I made them.” And I’m thinking: wow-where do you even begin with making sunglasses?!

And it doesn’t end there, Limon also reconstructs and designs clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and artwork stating,

“I push myself to do things I wouldn’t be comfortable doing in order to grow as a person.”
These are some of my favorite Emanuel Limon piece’s:

Frames for the Summer: Extinct Optics

13 May

Looking for those statement frames for the Summer?

Then you gotta check out EXTINCT OPTICS at Brooklyn Flea, specializing in vintage and designer frames & glasses. The man behind the company, Maxwell Stainback, has been specializing in eyewear for over 5 years now and you can expect to find nothing but the best selection from him.

Glasses start at $50 and sunnies at $90. You can expect to come across never-worn styles bearing such names as Pierre Cardin, Versace, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and of course our hipster staple…RAY-BANS! I bought a hot pair last summer of black & gold oval framed Les Copains which are still my go-to frames throughout the year.

Extinct Optics also carries a wide variety fo glasses dating back to the 40’s, so if you’re into vintage cat eye’d or loud & graphic 80’s, chances are you’re gonna find them here.  Most of the styles are dead-stock vintage, meaning no one has worn them & they come with the original packaging. Any of the frames can be filled with your prescription.

Here are some of my favs:
